soul surfer inspiration

I just watched Soul Surfer, and one thing I have to say about the movie is that everybody should watch it.. there are so many grateful things in life we have to embrace, and Bethany's story makes sure you get that!

Once again, thanks to this movie I realized how much in life I have, to be thankful for.. and while this girl, with only one arm, didn't give up on her dream, she made it true for others, and has become an inspiration for others..

It is amazing, how ones will, can drive them to do what they want, and she has done it..
I am promising myself, at this moment, that I will do more, and try to achieve my dreams, and hope to become an inspiration to others one day!

The Social Network

I have been waiting for this movie for so long. Being part of the culture that is growing up with all this social networking, the tweeting, blogging, and of course the facebooking. Actually I think facebook was the first social network site I have ever joined and kept my account at. Let's get to the movie..

Many friends told me that it was not good, not worthy of watching. But as I said, I had to see it.
So the other day, "my baby" and I went for it..

I really loved the opening seen where Zuckerberg and his (ex)girlfriend are in a bar, talking, fighting.. I really loved the scenes which we saw the idea flow of this weird genius, how he wrote everything he thought to his -live journal.. kept going and going with no filters or limits.. that's when I  knew, I would be smiling when I was watching this movie..

throughout the movie I gave giggles, and smiles, and "my baby" was actually curious to why.. -because I adored Zuckerberg's cluelessness of human interaction, and how he made everyone feel weird and tiny with his insights.. that guy just made me laugh..

One thing to keep in mind is that the social network was directed by David Fincher.. a master mind I must say.. previous work: Se7en, Fight Club, Curious Case of Benjamin Button.. (oh look, Brad Pitt is in all of them..hmmm?) All incredible movies, all movies a must watch before you die kind.. I think if Fincher was not the director and someone else was, then this movie would probably suck.. but..
right now - I would say watch it..

Watch it- because it actually shows us kinda the truth behind this whole phenomenon that is in our daily lives.. I know people checking their facebook a million times.. I know people obsessed about checking their ex's photos and relationship statuses.. well- this movie shows how facebook became facebook...

the karate kid

watching the 2010 version of the karate kid made me nostalgic..
i thought of myself back in Istanbul, in our old house watching TV,
watching the karate kid..
the 1984 version..
and now i was watching the new one, the 2010..
not much had changed..

I have to say that I adore Jaden Smith.. having an incredibly talented mom and dad must have its benefits..
as we all can see..
in addition to his talent, one has to acknowledge his cuteness..
so adorable

the karate kid is a must see, I think..
who ever is around the age 20s.. should watch it and remember what it was like to be 5 or 10..

dior homme - un rendez vous

please let me know what you think?

the american

we heard this movie was great..
judging from the poster and the trailer, it seemed to be a good idea to spend our labor day evening watching it..
we were not smart!
I was either expecting too much, or was just not in the mood, or this movie was plain boring.
I love art, I love movies, I love george clooney. But this.. it was too much.
started out silent with a lot of suspense..
then..
nothing..
until the end, I heard my friends saying "there has to be something before the end, there has to be"
nope there wasn't..
you know what the easiest way to end or even have a movie is right?
sex and love.
an assassins last job was somehow tied to these 2 basic elements of life too.
isn't that just playing it safe?
and by the way, he might have a wonderful body- especially at his age, but still, don't expect him to be running, or any action scenes like in any of the "Bourne" movies.
its just a depressed assassins few days..

but no matter what- isn't he adorable?

timer

one of the movies that is on my "to watch" list is timer.
I read about is somewhere, and then saw the trailer.. it just captured me..
it seems to take this different approach to love and finding your soulmate..
i really have to see it - i think..
if there is anyone who saw it - please let me know how it is! ?

the trailer got me thinking..
can you predict who you fall in love with?
can someone else predict who you fall in with?
who can know?
does love change? evolve?
does love fade?
is there something called real love?
if there is, would real love fade? evolve? change? be predicted?

i think somewhat these questions are or might be asked by "timer" ..
once i watch it, i'll let you know!

the runaways

Cover of "The Runaways"Cover of The Runaways
I just watched "The Runaways" at home.

I must say I really liked it.. the movie was not biased and showed the band as a group but also as individuals.
you see their story in about 100 mins..
the movie focuses on the forming of the band and their rise to fame.. their tour in Japan..
The Runaways changed the rock industry- they showed everyone that women are more than just stay at home wives or just a nice body to look at..
that "these chicks can rock"..
I think who ever likes "I love Rock n Roll" song of Joan Jett should watch this movie..
I don't think I will be watching it anytime soon again, but still..

BlackSwan

Natalie Portman encounters the Berlinale audie...Image via Wikipedia
BlackSwan, a thriller drama, featuring Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman. Oh, I love Natalie Portman.. Her face is just pure and her acting I think is incredible - and she is smart..

I had no idea of the movie until I watched the trailer - which shocked me and made me want to watch it! I just can't wait to see it!

It's about this ballet dancer and events that surround her. This is not "the nutcracker"! I think Darren Aronofsky did an incredible job - but I have to see the whole movie first!

Click to see the BlackSwan trailer !!!

What do you think?

Purples are the ones I haven't watched before. Greens are the ones I've seen but wanna see again...

there are many more movies that I want to see.. but these were the ones just popped in my mind..

inception

Inception (film)Image via Wikipedia

OK- so "my baby" and I went to see INCEPTION yesterday night. I just have one word to describe my feelings!!!! "your mind is the scene of the crime" – incredible!
I was amazed by the movie. Congratulations to Christopher Nolan! And the cast.. I think Leo has become mature. He came into our lives with Titanic and then made really smart choices for movies. Shutter Island and INCEPTION moved me. I love that he selects his movies with special care and does not do any movie that comes his way. Think of it.. let's remember his last movies... Shutter Island(2010), Revolutionary Road(2008), Body of Lies(2008), Blood Diamond(2006) and etc... His choices were smart, all movies got the viewer excited and wondering.. they all were hit movies- I loved all of them.
Now Ellen Page- our young Juno star.. I couldn't have imagined anyone better than her to play the architect! She was just right for it. Her looks and her voice, the way she moves just fits.. Her speach tone just fits the character and brings it alive.. well-done!
Ah.. my wonderful Marion Cotillard.. I loved every movie that she has played in.. She is an actress that brings soft sexiness to the role she plays.. The french accent helps.. I love the naturel look she has, with her wavy hair.. the wonderful big eyes, with the little button nose.. beautiful and talented women! If you haven't watched, do watch her in Big Fish, La vie en rose and definitly in Jeux d'enfants (Love me if you dare)!!
And Joseph Gordon-Levitt.. for some reason I didn't use to like him that much.. he came into my radar after 500 days of Summer.. but with this movie.. I have seen a grown man acting! He broke out of his child like self.. which might be caused by his baby boy looks (not a bad thing I must say).. I think he did a wonderful acting..
So, much said about the actors (the other cast members were wonderful too) .. I have to talk about the movie itself.. once you watch it, I hope you will think like me.. the none-gravity fight scenes.. the logic behind all thoughts.. the idea that the subconscious, the dream state has so many details under it.. and the ability to reach it, steal it or just plant a new idea to grow – AMAZING! As a psychology major, I must say that I really appreciated the idea and the plot of the story!
One criticism that I want to make is that.. when I think of my own dreams.. they are not well drawn as the movie reflected.. you know you are dreaming because of the absurdities you see or feel. Yes, the dream feels real while you're in it, however you still might get the feeling that something is wrong. No dream is well figured as it was in the movie.. what I was expecting to see, or would have chosen to do is.. make it more complex.. not in the sense of an idea.. but.. make it illogical.. make it none-sense in some parts.. like while running down the street, get to runing in your apartment or something- this was a dream I saw.. while running away from someone on the street, I foud myself running in my apartment locking myself in my room.. the logical and illogical combined is what makes a dream..
But that said.. again.. I really enjoyed INCEPTION.. and I do recommend it to everyone..
